The Professional Association of Treatment Homes (PATH) was recently awarded a five-year, $2 million federal grant from the Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families. The working title for this grant project was SPAN – Special Parents Adoption Network.

However, PATH learned in January 2004 that another agency in Minnesota was already using the SPAN acronym to represent its name – Special Parents Adoptive Network.

This organization recently received a $4,000 start-up grant from the North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC) to provide support groups and training to adoptive parents.

PATH changed its project name from SPAN to Rural Expansion of Adoptive Communities and Homes (REACH) in order to avoid miscommunication and identity confusion.
